Overview

Horror of the Year ("HOTY," "we," "us") is a horror film review-aggregation site. This page explains what information we collect from visitors, why, and what your options are. We keep this simple on purpose — we're not in the business of collecting more than we need.

Information We Collect

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand overall traffic — pages visited, general location (country/city level), device type, and how people found the site. This is aggregate usage data; we don't use it to identify individual visitors. Google Analytics may set cookies to do this — see how Google uses data from sites that use its services.

Advertising Measurement

We use the Meta Pixel to measure how our ads on Facebook and Instagram perform and to reach people who've visited the site. The pixel sends Meta information such as the pages you view, your IP address, browser details, and an identifier stored in a cookie. Meta may combine this with information it already has about you. Satan's Boardroom Submissions

If you submit a score through the Satan's Boardroom form, that submission (including your email address) is emailed directly to the site's founder. It's used only to review and verify board submissions and to contact you about them if needed. We don't sell it, share it with third parties, or use it for marketing.

Third-Party Links & Data

Film posters and "Where to Watch" streaming availability come from The Movie Database (TMDB), which sources streaming data from JustWatch. Clicking a streaming provider or a "More options on JustWatch" link takes you to a third-party site with its own privacy policy — we don't control what happens there.

Cookies

We use these cookies:

• Google Analytics (_ga, _ga_*) — traffic statistics. Lasts up to 2 years.
• Meta Pixel (_fbp, _fbc) — advertising measurement and retargeting. Lasts up to 90 days.
• Essential (hoty_region, hoty_consent) — remembers your privacy choice and which privacy rules apply where you are. Not used for tracking.

We don't have user accounts and don't use cookies to store account data.

You can turn off analytics and advertising cookies at any time with the "Your Privacy Choices" link at the bottom of every page. You can also email us to access or delete information we hold about you, like a Satan's Boardroom submission.

EU, EEA, UK & Switzerland

If you're visiting from these regions, Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel don't load unless you click "Accept" on our cookie banner. Our legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. For form submissions, our basis is our legitimate interest in running Satan's Boardroom. Under the GDPR and UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your data, to object to processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority.

U.S. State Privacy Rights

Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon, and other states with consumer privacy laws may have the right to know, access, correct, and delete their personal information, and to opt out of its "sale" or "sharing" for targeted advertising. Our use of the Meta Pixel may count as sale or sharing under these laws. To opt out, use the "Your Privacy Choices" link. We also honor Global Privacy Control signals: if your browser sends one, we treat it as an opt-out automatically. We don't sell personal information for money, and we won't treat you differently for using these rights.

Children's Privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to This Policy

If what we collect or how we use it changes materially, we'll update this page and revise the "Last updated" date above.
